Last Fall United Poultry Concerns activists urged the Tropicana Casino
in Atlantic City, and the casino's parent company, Aztar Corporation, to
stop forcing hens to play tic-tac-toe with gamblers. Now Aztar has
expanded this cruel game to its casinos in Evansville, Indiana and Las
Vegas, Nevada. Last week PETA cruelty investigator Amy Rhodes wrote a
letter to Aztar President Robert M. Haddock urging that the game be
stopped, citing the poor quality of life for these hens locked in boxes
on painful wire mesh floors, one hen to a cage.
Today United Poultry Concerns President Karen Davis spoke with Aztar
Vice President of Corporate Communications Joe Cole, who said he has no
idea how these hens are being treated, what they are fed, or how they
live. There is no information about what is done to the hens who don't
"perform" or who become ill, or how the hens are "trained." There is no
information about how many hens are actually being used because hens can
easily be trashed and replaced and no one would know the difference.
Please protest vigorously to Aztar President Robert M. Haddock and urge
him to use a computerized opponent or human volunteer instead of captive
birds. Request a written reply.
