Live Chicks on Comedy Central's TV Funhouse | |||
Please contact Comedy Central to protest the use of live chicks on
their new show, "TV Funhouse." Ask them to eliminate the use of live
chicks on the program. Ask them to send you a written reply to your
concerns. Keep after them. Thank you!
Below is UPC's letter: January 29, 2001 Producer, TV Funhouse Comedy Central Viewer Services 1775 Broadway, 10th Floor New York, NY 10019 Dear Producer: I am writing to you on behalf of United Poultry Concerns, a national nonprofit organization with 11,000 members nationwide, to ask you to eliminate the use of live chicks on TV Funhouse. Motherless chicks are not having fun, and the handling, noise, lights, and other elements of television production constitute, however unintentionally, inhumane treatment of these birds. We are deeply concerned, as well, about the ultimate disposition of the surviving chicks: what are you doing with these birds when the show is over? Please take seriously our concern. We live in a society that kills many millions of unwanted animals every year, including unwanted chickens, ducks, and geese, as well as dogs and cats, because children get tired of the novelty of having a pet, and their parents are unwilling or unable to assume the responsibility of caring for these animals. I respectfully request-I urge--that you do not promote and perpetuate the mindset responsible for bringing baby animals into the world and then dumping them as if they were trash or "just things," and which encourages people to see chickens and other animals as stage props, toys, and something to make jokes over. Please create comedy that is based on the willing consent of all of the players and let this principle be a standing part of the creative challenge you face in making hit shows.
